“Inspired to create, create to inspire”

As anyone who has ever made something will tell you, there is real power in taking part in a creative activity and arts and crafts have been shown to enrich and enhance life for cancer patients and their carers.

The therapeutic benefits of sharing, supporting, and inspiring others through arts and crafts are well known, promoting a greater sense of self-awareness, and self-expression.

The HER Breast Friends Wednesday Crafters meets on Wednesdays at 12pm until 3pm at The Octagon and offers a relaxing and meaningful way to spend a couple of hours together.

The aims of our group are fun and friendship through arts and crafts to help restore self-esteem, encourage relaxation, sharpen concentration and improve quality of life.

Members of the craft group also work together on a range of different projects to produce beautiful items to sell and raise funds for HER Breast Friends.

The group also helps promote a positive awareness of the Charity through its craft stalls at various fundraising events, its’ presence at various other community and charity events, and its’ successes at the Beverley Christmas Tree Festival.

However our craft group also offers another recognised health benefit too – laughter – as anyone who has been here on a Wednesday afternoon will tell you. Laughter is a good medicine!

“A super bunch of friends, great crafting ideas and a weekly treat of chatter, tea and cake!”

Most weeks they just meet to chat and craft, share or swap skills or materials, but sometimes guest tutors are invited in to demonstrate new crafts or ideas. If you can help in any way please let us know.

The HER Breast Friends Wednesday Crafters warmly welcomes new members, and absolutely no crafting skills or experience is necessary. Just come along on a Wednesday afternoon from 12pm and give us a try! The kettle is always on (cake is often available too) and even if you don’t want to participate in crafts, the company is always great!

“Given me a lot of friendship, built up my confidence and got me out and about”

As part of HER Breast Friends 10th anniversary in 2015 the Charity held a series of roadshows/exhibitions to promote the Charity’s services and activities and to highlight the positive and therapeutic impact that inspiring arts and crafts can have on those affected by the disease.
