A team of 19 people from AB Graphic International entered the annual York Dragon Boat race, organised by the York Rotary Club. The event took place on Sunday 14th July 2019 on the River Ouse.
Naming themselves the ‘Average Boating Gang’, the team chose HER Breast Friends as their Charity to support after the Charity they had helped one of the wives of the team, whilst going through their breast cancer journey.
This was the first year the team entered the race and with the help of Kingston Kayak Club, were able to put a little training in prior to the big race. A total 36 teams entered the race, with each team competing in 3 races to achieve their fastest time, in the hope of reaching the 6 boat race final.
After their initial 3 races, the Average Boating Gang had gained a much coveted place in the final race before bagging an incredible 5th place, which was fabulous for a team of newcomers!
The Average Boating Gang dressed for the occasion in neon pink HER Breast Friends shirts, pink tutu’s and pink leg warmers – they certainly stood out from the crowd, so much so that they scooped up the trophy for the ‘Best Dressed Team’.
A fun day was had by everyone and they are already looking forward to next years!
Loads of money has already been pledged, but they are still taking sponsors, so if anyone would still like to donate, please follow the link:
