Hessle Sporting Tigers is made up of a bunch of players from all over the local area and from many different schools. This could be viewed as a hinderance as the lads only meet a couple of times a week for training and matches but actually the opposite is true, these boys have built true and lasting friendships and most importantly have a laugh playing a game they love.
After a challenging and turbulent year for everyone it was fantastic to see a return to organised sport for our youngsters in late March. Not only does sport provide much needed health and fitness it is also a fantastic way to support mental health and wellbeing and build valuable social skills for the future.
This season we are once again in the fortunate position to have received sponsorship from two very generous supporters, Rorrison Engineering and Tom Cowen Personal Training. It can’t be stressed enough how much grassroots sport relies on this type of community support and we know how lucky we are to have these two fantastic gents backing us.
At the request of one of our sponsors we are also truly honored to be running out in new shirts sporting the ‘Hull & East Riding Breast Friends’ logo.
Sadly, many of our players and their families have had their lives touched by cancer. An indiscriminate disease that takes so much from so many. When we asked the lads what they thought about running out sporting pink butterflies on the kit we expected a little bit of embarrassment – these are 14-year-old boys after all! The response was unanimous – the team are honored to be able to wear the charities logo on their sleeves and hope that it will raise much needed awareness for such a fantastic local cause. The lads have also requested that the proceeds from the tea and tuck shop ran at each home game this season be donated to the charity to help support cancer patients and their families – needless to say we are a very proud set of coaches and parents at this mature response.
As far as the footy goes, despite some fantastic play our season got off to a shaky start. All of the months kept apart took their toll. Thankfully, with a little bit of grit and determination, teamwork and resilience the lads have battled through and are back on winning ways. We’re hoping this continues as the season progresses.
