The HER Breast Friends Wig Bank opened its’ doors at the Chamberlain Roads premises in 2011. It is open to all ladies who have been affected by hair loss including, but not exclusively, cancer patients in the Hull and East Riding area.
Losing your hair can be such a traumatic time and we pride ourselves on looking after all our clients in our newly refurbished Wig Bank, offering a comfortable, caring, sensitive and friendly environment, whilst maintaining privacy and confidentiality.
HER Breast Friends was delighted by the visit of The Lord Mayor of Kingston upon Hull, Councillor Anita Harrison to our Wig Bank on the afternoon of Friday 15th April 2016, in preparation for her charity ball being held at The Guildhall later that day. The Lord Mayor made her choice from our large selection of donated wigs and had the opportunity to have it trimmed or styled specially for the occasion by local ‘celebrity’ hairdresser Alexander Turnbull, a keen supporter of our Wig Bank, who kindly volunteers some of his own time as well as providing training for our team of volunteer wig fitters. Once the new hair had been chosen, The Lord Mayor then enjoyed a makeover by the Charity’s Lead Therapist Elaine.
The Lord Mayor, Cllr Anita Harrison said “Losing your hair can be so upsetting and demoralising that many women fear going out when they are undergoing treatment. A Wig Bank is a brilliant idea. There’s a wide choice of stylish, affordable wigs and hair pieces, and you have the reassurance that you will receive the utmost understanding and care. Also, I appeal to anyone who may have any unwanted wigs to donate them to the Wig Bank, where they will be reconditioned for further use.”
We are extremely grateful to the Lord Mayor for her willingness to share what is such a personal experience in such a public way and hope her visit will not only help us to promote the excellent service we currently provide but will bring in offers of unwanted wigs and perhaps some financial support to enable us to expand and develop the service further.
