In January 2019, James Tempest contacted the Charity, saying he wanted to take on the challenge of the Yorkshire 3 Peaks in memory of his ‘surrogate Auntie’ Maggie. James admitted that this was his first ever challenge of this type. Training began and James was soon joined in his quest by his good friend Cris.
On Saturday 4th May 2019, they put on their walking boots, HBF T-shirts and coats, then faced what would be their setting for the next 12+ hours – Ingleborough, Whernside and Pen-Y-Ghent. They went through every weather condition and emotion possible. Temperatures dropped to -4 with 30mph winds, then a little sunshine, before more rain and battering winds, then came snow and hail for good measure. However, James and Cris stuck to it, battled through and 11 hours and 56 minutes later, they had done it!

James said ‘We honestly didn’t think we would do it or that it would hurt in places we never knew existed’.
Initially James hoped to raise around £200 for HER Breast Friends but as people got to know about their challenge and why they were doing it, support for the young men came thick and fast.
James and Cris popped into the Charity to not only see what the Charity does, first hand, but they also presented some of our members and volunteers a cheque for an incredible £1002.00!

Huge congratulations James and Cris, you are both AMAZING… and should feel very proud of yourselves!
Thankyou so much for your amazing donation – this will go such a long way to helping us continue to support local people affected by breast cancer.
